Greater flamingo
'Phoenicopterus ruber'
Swahili: Heroe mkubwa
Best parks to see it: Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru, Lake Elmenteita
The greater flamingo is easily distinguished from its lesser cousin by its much larger size and its pink bill with a black tip. Its plumage is also generally whitier than the lesser flamingo's feathers. Although it is present in most alkaline lakes in the Rift Valley, it is usually more frequent at Lake Bogoria.
