Best parks to see it: Widespread

Very common in the dry grasslands of the central and northwestern Highlands. Despite its general dark colour, in flight it shows a large white patch on each wing, concealed when it is at rest. This feature makes it easy to differentiate from other black or dark birds of the same size. It usually forms small groups.
