Common in dry bush and arid savannah below 4,600 ft (1,400 m). Absent from the Indian Ocean coast, the Lake Victoria basin and the wet areas of Rift and Highlands. It can be recognised by the red-orange bill, the body largely whitish and the spotted wings. It is a frequent visitor of camps and lodges.
