A noisy and gregarious bird widespread and common in dry bush below 4,600 ft (1,400 m), but it is absent at the Lake Victoria basin and south coast, and unfrequent in the central highlands. Its nests, made with sticks, are flatter than those of other weavers. It can be frequently seen feeding on the ground along with starlings.
